The
scholarships are offered to any student in post-secondary education
that is a resident of Alberta and is pursuing a career in a field
that perpetuates the "western spirit". This would include careers in
veterinary medicine, animal husbandry, ranching, agricultural
business administration, forestry, fish & wildlife, etc.
The student
must send in an application with the pertinent information to the
Alberta Outfitters Association. The application should include high
school marks, letters of reference, etc.
|
The award is called "The
Year of the Cowboy Scholarship" and was started from funds donated
by Shell Canada, matched by the Alberta Outfitters Association. The
funds were made available after The Year of the Cowboy in Calgary
ended in 1998.
